Two Finger Scrolling for Pre-2005 Mac Books

Hey so it sucks that the new powerbooks and ibooks have two finger scrolling right? Well now if you have a fairly recent version of these two, then it should work. Check out
iScroll. I tried it and it actually works, so download it.

Gmail Invites

Well well well, it looks like gmail is really just letting everyone get these things, basically people have unlimited amount of of invites, i just checked my mail and it said 50 invites, so that is cool. I don't really know anyone right now that doesn't have one. This is a cool way to do it. Gmail is nice!

Live Strong

Look I am all for cancer research and money to raise cancer and all that great stuff, but people are buying these just for fashion. I doubt this many woman actually care about testicular cancer. I even saw one at my gym that was blue one from American Eagle. I don't know if they are donated money to some sort of research or what. Some people have 2 on! They donated $2 for their braclets. I think this might be going to far in terms of a fashion statement. But Long live cancer research!

Some Technology News

It seems that some sites are reporting that Apple will be coming out with some updated Powerbooks & iBooks soon, probably not g5 thought, just and update to current versions.
Also Toshiba is reporting that they are making 80GB hard drive, so look out for a new iPod with bigger size this summer, and updates to the iPod mini's with different colors.

Google now has a cool technology search where you can actually search closed captioning and see video caps of what it looked like when they talked about that specific word.

Try it out at http://video.google.com/

Seems that google is slowly starting to take over the planet with all of this cool new stuff they are coming out with. They also seem to be trying to get in the Voice over IP industry so keep your eyes on google. Im sure their stock will soar.

Used Books

I just got this text book for my E-commerce class, and it is in really good shape. It looks brand new. got it from Half.com powered by E-bay. The retail cost is $92, I got it for $9. Great Deal. Should have done this sooner for earlier classes. I ordered another book I have to read for $.75 cents, its awsome. Used it if you need text books.

First week of School

Well school is well underway this week, and here are the classes I am taking:

Visual Language of the Moving Image - still not sure what we are going to do in this class, I think it has something to do with the way directors and cinema peeps make stuff look the way they do.

Creativity and Problem Solving - still developing what this class is and not sure where we might be going in it.

Media for E-commerce - How to build sites with database and stuff for shopping online.

Production 2 - Digital Story telling. Making a book trailer for a novel.

Senior Project - Working with a teacher helping out a local high school make book trailers to get them interested in reading.

Looks like it might be a pretty good semester, can't wait for summer, 2 more classes, senior project 2 and one more DM class then I am done.

A note on Podcasting

As soon as this semester is over, and I have some time to breath, then the PODCASTING will emmence. Sorry I haven't posted anything, but I still want to work on the format of the show, and stick to it. I should come out with something in Mid December, or earlier, so stay tuned. Any suggestions on the format of the show?

The United States of the Hives!

Well Well Well, I am recovering from the Hives concert not to mention thanksgiving. The Hives were awsome, they all came out at 11pm as Howlin' Pelle was the last to emerge opening up with Abra Cadaver from their new album, Tyrannosaurus Hives. After the opening number was up, a quick hello came from Pelle "We are the Hives from Sweden, write that down in your NOTEBOOK!" As they played some of their other hits like Die, Alright, and others they paused many times to thank the crowd, and to remind us exactly who we were seeing. "We are the HIVES, thats H-I-V-E-S, HIVES!" He also mentioned Florida on several occasions. "I'm not sure if I have my geography correct but is this Disney World?" Everyone yelled "yes!!", which was followed with a catchy come back. "No this is Hives World, and we don't have Roller Coasters here, we have Rock N Roll, so take a ride with us!"

Thanksgiving was also on the Hives mind that evening, even though they are from Sweden. "So tomorrow is thanksgiving?" "Are you going to Eat a Bird?!, Well We don't have any birds here all we have is rock n roll!"

The show lasted a little over an hour and they completely blew the crowd away with such classics as Supply and Demand, and the infamous Hate to Say I told you So.

During Diabolic Scheme the Hives froze mid-play as though they were not real, and stood that way for at least a minute, before finishing off the crowd.

After many more acts of complete confidence, the Hives came to their encore, which included 3 songs, the final was a.k.a. I-D-I-O-T!

The concert was awsome and made a true believer of good music out of a few skeptics at the show. :-)

More work

I've got alot of work to do as follows:

Make a book movie trailer for a Mary Higgins Clark book: Moonlight becomes You (anybody read it?)

Write a paper on Digital Television

Write a paper on RSS

Finish Music mash ups

Glad that this semester is coming down quickly now

I went and saw National Treasure over the weekend, did a review here.

Did you guys see this?

Can you believe this? I don't care what is thrown at you, even if it's a dagger, YOU DONT GO ATTACK FANS! In my opinion basketball palyers are getting paid way too much money and they just take that for granted. Whatever happened to the day when Larry Bird, and Micheal Jordan were so happy to do things for kids and charitys and just love playing the game. These players now are nuts!!!! They have to show off their bling and big house on cribs, what the hell? and What was up with the dream team? Opening night of the Olympics they were all cocky and wearing their huge dimond necklaces, JEEZ! I know plenty of people that were rooting for the other countries to win, like lithunia were players play for free, and its straight street ball. I think even one dream team player had to get a court order to play because he was a felon. Representing America.

I think this incident should make sports organizations look at their players and anyone who is arrested or whatever, just get rid of them, for every Kobe there is a guy in high school that can't wait to play, and would give anything the chance to play basketball for a living.

Toy Story 3

Disney has announced that they will proceed with plans to make the next installment in the Toy Story tale, with or without Pixar. They are trying to aquire another 3-D studio in California to replace Pixar. This is Disney's problem. They are always trying to make sequels to their famous movies, making them painful to watch. Remember the Lion King? Good movie, right? Then they came out with Lion King 2. The people were like uh oh ok well that sucked. Then they came out with Lion King 1 and a half, and people were like, I hate Lion King and everything associated with it.

They run their characters in the ground without having to think of new and creative characters, thats too much work. Why not make another movie with all the old characters in it, over and over again. If Toy Story 3 is released it will destroy the whole story line and make the Toy Story name less credible. Disney has the rights to the Toy Story characters, and all the other creative people that Pixar thinks of, so they are free to do whatever they want. Pixar didn't even want to do the sequel Toy Story 2, for the feel of this turning it into some sort of money making fiasco. Disney WAKE UP!!!!, NOBODY wants to see Snow White 2, or Bambi 6.

I have a Plan!

How many times did we here that? Apparently not enough, another cool podcasting idea is to cut up audio to make it sound like people are saying stuff. Here's something I made with John Kerry and his infamous words, "I have a Plan".

Best Buy Hates You...

Big time retailer Best Buy thinks of some of their customers as Devils. I personally hate best buy, and will try not to go there if I can help it. The people that work there are rude, and if you ask them something, they think that your stupid, and I am not the only one who apperently feels like this. Not only that the CEO is calling their customers DEVILS, hello!? They want the idiot consumer. Im sure people have had bad BB experiences and think that this news is not shocking.

Podcasting

There is a new thing on the internet people are doing now, similar to Blogging, its called Podcasting, this is where you can record MP3's of like your daily variety show, or whatever you want, like a radio show, and post it onto your website.

Im looking more into it, and see if I can post something very soon of how I think it works.

SNL Sucks

Is it just me or does SNL completly suck now. I just don't think it's funny, ever since they let Tina Fey be the head writer, it has been heading down hill. Not to mention that the current cast members are not funny. The only funny guy is the fat kid from Good Burger who plays Star Jones, now that is funny. Since the new season has started I think I have laughed outloud twice. Both were commercials, the Dyson Vacuum cleaner parody, and the Dr. Porkenheimers Boner Juice commercial, I admit this was funny. Anyways What do you people think?

Do Believe I TOLD YOU SOOOO....ALRIGHT!

Guess whos got tickets to see the HIVES! Thats right I do, I was at the library and I saw the House of Blues brochure for the month of NOV, and I saw HIVES, and I was like NO WAY! Anyways I ordered them through ticket master, and then they charge me like $20 bucks in service charges, rediculous.

Hmmmmm Funions!

i just got this email:

Submitted by: Sergeant Troy Williamson
Submitted for: Police Department
Subject: Community Alert-Vending Machine Bandit

The University Police Department is requesting the assistance from
members of the community to be on the look out for George Arther
Delisle. He has been arrested twice for a series of vending machine
break-ins. He was supposed to appear in front of a judge, but failed
to
appear. There is an active warrant for his arrest. There is a
possibility that the subject has been on campus breaking into vending
machines again.

For a complete picture and information about this subject, go to
http://www.police.ucf.edu/CrimeAlert.html

HAHA, how funny is this. Its probably some large dude that needs the sweets. Those candies are just too addictive. Anyways I finished my music test, I think I did ok on it, I know I got a few wrong, we will see. Ive got meetings the rest of the day. I like my banner. Thats the monkey pooing, not me. :-)

Music is Fun!

I've got a wicked hard test tomorrow I need to study for, on Synthesizers and oscillators, in Music Technology. If anybody has any info on that stuff let me know, cause I sure don't. Here is an idea of what I have to study.

Synthesis Techniques
- oscillators - generates waveforms
- Square
- Triangle
- Saw
- Sine
- Noise
- modulators - varies a waveform's property (frequency, phase,
amplitude) by
another waveform
- Additive - sums up several oscillators
- Subtractive - carves out frequencies from a single oscillator (often
noise)
- AM - modulates amplitude
- FM - modulates frequency, first used in the Yamaha DX7, later
ubiquitous in
sound cards
- Wavetable - allows easy storage, playback, and modification of
samples to
simulate any other synthesis technique in computer hardware or software
- Physical Modelling - recreate realistic sounds by modelling physical
properties of audio with complex equations
- Granular - use microsamples to build up more complex sounds
Digital Audio
- ADC - filter, sampling unit, binary converter
- Sampling - sampling rate, bit-depth
- Nyquist Theorem - sr = 2*highest frequency
- WAV/AIFF files and how to estimate their file size
- size in bits = bit-depth * sampling rate(Hz) * # channels * length
of
sample (seconds)
- divide size / 8 = bytes, divide by 1,000,000 to get MB (megabytes)
- audio compression techniques
- remove inaudible frequencies
- remove masked frequencies
- VBR vs. CBR
- MP3
- most common, pay royalties
- Ogg Vorbis
- open source, uses quality metric
- WMA
- Microsoft, supports DRM, gaining popularity
- AAC
- Apple, supports DRM

Microphones
- condenser - expensive, highly accurate
- dynamic - less expensive, biased frequency response

Audio Effects
- Filters - attenuate amplitude based on frequency
- LPF - filters frequencies above cutoff
- HPF - filters frequencies below cutoff
- BPF - filters frequencies outside the band
- BRF - filters frequencies inside the band
- Dynamic Range - attenuates amplitude based on amplitude
- Compressor - decreases dynamic range by attenuating above the
threshold
(http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Compression/)
- Limiter - compressor with very high ratio (can get rid of
transients)
- Expander - increases dynamic range by attenuating below the
threshold
(http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Expansion/)
- Noise Gate - expander with very high ratio (can get rid of ambient
noise)
- Delay and Modulation
(http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Delay/)
- Echo - uses delay to create an echo
- Chorus - uses delay to create choral tone (many voices, same pitch)
- Phaser - modulates phase
(http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Phase_Shifting/)
- Flanger - kind of phaser that modulates frequency

Mixing
- audio signals flow from top to bottom
- Gain - coarse amplitude adjustment
- Line Level - amplitude that usually doesn't need amplification
- Mic Level - amplitude that usually needs amplification
- Aux/Sends - lets you send out and bring back in audio signals
- EQualization
(http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Equalization/)
- Shelf Filter - used to amplify/attenuate High and Low bands
- Peak - used to amplify/attenuate Mid bands
- Panning
- Volume Fader

yeah thought so...

America...Home of the Free!!!

Well Well Well, after around a year of negative reporting, constant media Bush bashing, and over eager celebrities visiting campus’s all over the nation, including mine, Bush somehow pulled out the victory. Was it the constant European outlook that persuaded Americans the other direction, or was it the idea of, "This will show Michael Moore". Neither, it all came down to morals and what this great country was founded on. Alas Americans are going back to their roots. What would George Washington say if he knew that certain people are trying and mostly succeeding in removing the Pledge of Allegiance from our nations classrooms? What would Benjamin Franklin think if he knew that Under God was trying to be removed from the money he is on? What would Thomas Jefferson do if he knew that prayer was being revoked throughout public schools? They would be appalled.

The Democrats have completely lost touch with the average American, and their values. Especially the celebrities, and everyone who listens to their point of view. All of these people have an opinion on how thing should be run. Who asked them?

My faith has been restored to America, going back to days of our founding fathers. I am so glad that the stupid lies and propaganda of Michael Moore has not had an effect on the majority of Americans. Thanks America, your country’s legends thank you too.

Hunker'n down 4-Life Dawg

Yea so i guess we are safe for now. With school back in session alot of the deadlines have been pushed back. Also i got star wars on DVD, and its awsome, very good sound, and the bonus disc gives you a first hand look at episode 3 the return of Vader. I also got Supersize Me today. Everyone should own a copy of it. It's so truthful. Can't wait to see the Kerry and Bush debates on TV thursday. The US is supposedly split with Bush ahead slightyly in the poles.

My new phone keeps cuttin people off and it still says im connected to them. And why is it that the bill is so hard to read that you have no idea how much it is. There are all of these fees and you have no clue on how to decifer them. GEEZ!

Lookin' Good

Well it looks like Ivan might stay clear, althought the Hurricane at this current posting is a CAT 5 and it has killed like 61 people, jeez. This picture is the current path that the weather dudes have predicted. Ive got class here in a few, school is trying to get back on track after hurricane disasters.

All Eyes on IVAN

well it looks like this is the current projected path, so im not sure whether we will be without power again or what. All my classes are postponing assignments, and I know of alot of people whos parents are going to move because they can't stand back to back to back hurricanes. The weather dude said that we can expect more this season too, considering that hurrican season just started. JEEZ!

So the east and west coasts are taking turns evacuating. I heard on the news that the economy nationwide is taking a blow from this, because people in Florida have not gone out and spent that much money, just on groceries, and the water companies must be making a killin', they cant make that stuff fast enough. It's probably all tap anyways. Keep you posted.

Oh yeah and i heard on the radio that some guy thinks that the middle east has some sort of weather machine and this is a way of attacking us near Sept 11th. Also the superchannel, which is a religous network is claming that the reason we are getting hit so hard by storms, is God's fury that the Orlando area has a decent size gay population, and this is the reason we have had this many storms.

Ivan the Terrible

All eyes on Ivan now as its path is very similar to Charley. Ivan has already caused 9 deaths, and the hurricane could possibly reach CAT 5 winds before it makes landfall on the west coast of Florida. Keep you posted, go to weather.gov for more info.
